On Friday marketing dog tags with a link to FindMakarov.com were sent out to some US press and automatically, understandably, the countdown found on the website was thought to indicate at some sort of reveal for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

Not long after though, a representative for publisher Activision revealed to GTTV host Geoff Keighley that the happenings weren’t in any way linked to the game, still unannounced, and that anything otherwise “was a hoax.”

Keighley has since been sleuthing around however, and discovered from sources that FindMakarov is in fact an independent short film, inspired by Activision’s hit FPS franchise, due to launch on March 2. Even more, Keighley was sent a still-frame from the short film featuring the character of Ghost from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - you can see that up top.

So there you have it, an independent film. Guess we’ll have to wait a little longer to hear anything from the next Call of Duty.
