GK Films has announced the acquirement of the film rights to Tomb Raider, with the aim to release a reboot of the franchise in 2013.

The films will be produced by Graham King and Tim Headington, and will see a “young and dynamic Lara Croft” take on new adventures.

“We are very excited to be rebooting what is already a hugely successful film franchise and continuing the TOMB RAIDER phenomenon,” said Graham King.

Tomb Raider was first seen on the big screen in 2001 with Angelina Jolie taking up the role of Croft. A sequel followed in 2003. It's unknown who will play the role of Croft in the reboot. A reboot of the video game series is currently in development at Crystal Dynamics and is expected launch later this year for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
