Lionel Messi has made the switch from Pro Evolution Soccer to FIFA and become the global face of the EA Sports Football franchise.

The Barcelona and Argentina winger has signed a deal with the publisher to become the lead man in EA Sports Football marketing and advertising campaigns, as well as social media activities for the line of products. We’ll first see him appear on the cover of the new FIFA Street title when it launches in March.

“Our FIFA franchise is the number one selling sports videogame franchise in the world, and Lionel Messi is the number one player in the world, so this agreement is a true partnership of superstars,” said EA Sports Football VP, Matt Bilbey. “With Messi on our team we have the world’s best and most exciting player to help EA SPORTS maintain its global leadership in the years ahead.”

Messi last appeared on the cover of Pro Evolution Soccer 2011, but was replaced by Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo for the 2012 edition.
