Update: Activision has claimed the teaser site and dog tags as a hoax overnight, with a company representative telling GTTV's Geoff Keighley: "Let me be clear we are not revealing yet. Anything indicating otherwise is a hoax."
Original: Big news for Call of Duty fans, as a website has today been launched by Activision, indicating that Modern Warfare 3 will be unveiled for the first time in the next five days.
According to ThatVideoGameBlog the publisher has sent out some bloody dog tags to press in the States. “End the war” is the message embossed on one, followed by “FindMakarov.com” - Makarov being the main antagonist who survived the events of Modern Warfare 2.
Details of Shepard, another enemy in the 2009 release, is then seen on the other tag.
Heading over to FindMakarov.com, you find a countdown which currently sits at just under five days. In five days time, the industry will be caught up in GDC 2011. You see where we’re going with this.
It was rumoured that Infinity Ward’s next project – if this is Infinity Ward’s work about to be exposed – would act as a prequel to the Modern Warfare series, but the message on the dog tags points to the end of Makarov – something that couldn’t happen in a prequel, surely?
Whatever this is, it looks as if we’re going to find out soon.
