Michael Pachter has predicted a landslide sales victory for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 over Battlefield 3 this year.

Speaking to Forbes, the Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst says he expects the Activision shooter to sell 16 million copies worldwide by the end of 2011. He then predicts sales of 8 million for its closest rival, EA’s Battlefield 3.

Pachter also believes that around half of those purchasing Battlefield 3 for consoles will also purchase Modern Warfare 3 – “around 2 to 3 million will buy both,” he said.

Battlefield 3 launched for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC yesterday in North America, and will hit European shores on Friday. As for Modern Warfare 3, that’s out on November 8 for Xbox 360, PS3, PC, Wii, and DS.
