Publishers are unhappy with the dates of the Eurogamer Expo and Gamefest, with both events set to take place just three days apart.
The established London-based Eurogamer Expo is set to take place at Earl’s Court from September 22-25, but popular UK retailer GAME has revealed it is to hold its own show, Gamefest, in Birmingham from September 14-18. It means that publishers will either have to choose one of the other, or spend more cash in order to be at both – something some are calling “an impossible decision.”
“Having two big shows so close together creates a huge burden for us,” one publisher told MCV anonymously. “We previously supported Eurogamer Expo, but we can’t not support the retail market leader. So effectively we have to build a separate stand for the public, or separate stands for both shows, or pay extra to quickly move from Birmingham to London. It’s an impossible decision.”
Another publisher described the clash as “a headache”, whilst Eurogamer boss Rupert Loman said Gamefest is yet to affect the company’s event when it comes to titles being shown.
