The Call of Duty franchise may not get its Sledgehammer-developed action-adventure title, studio co-founder Glenn Schofield has said.
During an interview with CVG Schofield confirmed the studio, set up in late 2009, will “probably cancel” said project following its decision to work collaboratively with Infinity Ward on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
“We'll probably cancel it. They gave us the choice of: do you want to work on Modern Warfare 3, or do you want to continue working on this? And we really liked that,” he said. “We liked what we were doing. It third person, probably set at a time that might have niched it too much.”
He added: “I bet that if we had kept going, within a month or two I probably would have switched the time period, but kept the gameplay. It had some really cool stuff.”
When asked what’s next for the California developer, Schofield, one of the main men behind EA’s Dead Space franchise, said it will likely work on its next project alone. Whether that project is within Activision’s mega-franchise or not is “up in the air,” though.
Thanks, TVGB.
