SOE axes over 200 jobs, closes studios, cancels The Agency

Some very unfortunate news today, as Sony Online Entertainment has revealed its plan to restructure which will see 205 jobs axed.
SOE’s Denver, Seattle and Tucson based studios have been closed in a bid to “reduce costs and streamline its global workforce”. Highly anticipated PS3 MMO, The Agency, has also been cancelled.
Projects already available such as DC Universe Online will not be affected, and development resources previously used on The Agency will now help to develop two new MMO titles based on the current PlanetSide and EverQuest properties.
Not good. We hope the talent let go in the move land on their feet ASAP. “All possible steps are being taken to ensure team members affected by the transition are treated with appropriate concern,” according to SOE.
