Original story: A 19 year-old Essex man thought to be linked to hacking group LulzSec has been arrested, the UK Metropolitan Police revealed today.
“The arrest follows an investigation into network intrusions and Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks against a number of international business and intelligence agencies by what is believed to be the same hacking group,” reads a statement from the Met.
Arrested “on suspicion of Computer Misuse Act, and Fraud Act offences,” the teenager is now in custody for questioning within a central London police station following last night’s arrest, and an Essex address now being searched for evidence.
The Met’s Central e-Crime Unit (PCeU) “was assisted by officers from Essex Police and have been working in co-operation with the FBI.”
LulzSec was not mentioned in the original statement, but a Metropolitan Police spokesperson has since told Develop the suspect was specifically charged in connection to an attack on the Serious Organised Crime Agency website – something the hacking group .
The spokesperson also revealed it was searching for evidence linking the suspect to the recent PlayStation Network breach, which saw the details of over 77 million users of the service compromised. Sony originally indicated another hacking group, Anonymous, was responsible for the downtime.
