Sales of the 3DS have fallen by almost a half in Japan in the wake of the dramatic price cut announced by Nintendo, Andriasang reports.

The 3DS sold 16,415 units last week, in contrast to 31,826 the week before, with four out of the seven days of sales being after the announced price cut. Sales are expected to continue to decline until the price cut comes into effect, as consumers hold off from buying the console to save money.

Nintendo are also expected to make a loss at present on the 3DS when the new price takes effect on the handheld.
