Nintendo will make a loss on each 3DS sold after it yesterday announced a price cut for the device, according to a Bloomberg Japan report.
The handheld console’s original retail price was $249.99, but that will be scrapped worldwide come August 12 when Nintendo introduces a new $169.99 price point – just over four months since its initial launch. That, according to Bloomberg Japan, will see the platform giant lose money on each 3DS sold.
Furthermore, company president Satoru Iwata revealed during a shareholder meeting yesterday that fixed salaries are to see cuts.
"For cuts in fixed salaries, I'm taking a fifty percent cut, other representative directors are taking a 30 percent cut, and other execs are taking a 20 percent cut," he said. Kotaku reports that Iwata is currently making the equivalent of $2 million.
Thanks, Adriasang.
