For the second week running sales of PlayStation Vita in Japan have declined with 42,648 units sold, down from 74,479 the week previous, which in itself was already a significant drop of 78 percent from launch.
In contrast Nintendo's 3DS sold 197,952 units and occupies five of the top ten software titles. However it's important to note that sales for all consoles and handhelds fell last week with the 3DS being down 50 percent.
Famitsu published figures for 2011 which show that the entirety of the Japanese games industry shrunk by 8%. The best selling piece of hardware was the 3DS with over 4 million sold since its launch in February with the PSP was next shifting around 2 million units. The PlayStation 3 was the best-selling console in 2011 with nearly 1.5 million units sold.
