Killzone 3 will be on store shelves this time next week, but what’s next for the franchise? According to developer Guerrilla Games, quite a bit.

"There's still a lot of room in the Killzone universe to expand and to do new stories," said the games senior producer Steven ter Heide during an interview with Eurogamer. "We want to leave ourselves open like [the ending of Killzone 3] because Killzone's not going to go away anytime soon.”

Next Wednesday’s Killzone 3 release in the UK will be the third title from the franchise to hit home consoles. A PSP appearance was made in 2006 with Killzone: Liberation, with another untitled instalment currently in development for the NGP/PSP2 at Sony Cambridge – check some footage of that over here.

Guerrilla Games is also working on a new IP, details unknown, but managing director Hermen Hulst added that the studio still has other ideas for Killzone.

"We've had our Pearl Harbour moment, our D-Day moment, but there are so many different types of war, different kinds of conflicts that have originated from different reasonings, from a different rationale." he said.

Killzone 3 releases for PlayStation 3 on February 22 in North America, February 23 in Europe, and February 25 in the UK.
