I’m sure that at this time 48 hours ago, the team at Techland weren’t expecting the amount of praise for and hype surrounding their upcoming zombie-survival title Dead Island. But what can you say? That’s what a mind-blowing trailer does for you.

Now though, Deep Silver has been confirmed to be publishing the game, as it did for Techland’s latest release nail’d, and has let off a few additional details.

To put it simply, Dead Island is set in an open-world tropical island and heavily combines first-person action with melee combat, as hordes of zombies lurk around each and every corner. Various items found across the island can be collected “and will later serve to transform the player’s ordinary makeshift weapons into serious instruments of destruction.”

It’s powered by Techland’s own, all-new version of the Chrome Engine, the Chrome Engine 5 which allows gamers to “experience the tropical island paradise in graphical splendor with diverse environments like lush forests and detailed city environments.”

Mention of online multiplayer is nowhere to be seen in the press release, though it does note that four players can join the campaign experience with co-op.

Dead Island will be releasing for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC later this year. Deep Silver and Techland have also released some new screenshots and a piece of artwork – check it all below.
