Sony is looking to bring a dual-view 3D mode to the PlayStation 3 in the future, according to Pocket-Lint (via TheSixthAxis).

The feature would see gamers have the ability to play against each other without the need for split-screen. It’s thought to be similar to the dashboard screens featured in the 2010 range of Land Rover vehicles, which allowed the driver to view sat-nav whilst the passenger watched a movie.

It all depends on where you’re sitting in the room of the television of course. Player one, for example, would see their actions being played if they’re sitting to the left hand side of the screen, whilst player two would see their own separate actions if they were standing on the right hand side. When staring into the screen from a central point of view, the player can only open one eye in order to view their actions correctly, not hurt their eyes.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe senior director Mick Hocking demoed the technology in-front of Sony executives and a small number of others in London recently. No word on when it will become available though.
